Greatness Isn’t Selfish

Written by: | Thursday, February 10th, 2011

I just love this quote by Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

Wow.

When we discover and live our greatness, not only do we bring our best to the world, we inspire others to get moving on their journey to discover and live their greatness.

In my programs, I tell my audiences that the world is invented by the people who are here, in this moment. If those who are here do not know what makes them great – what their talents, strengths and passions are – they are living in an average way. They invent our world in an average way. Then, imagine that each of us identify and live what we are great at – we live our greatness each day. Think of the world we would invent!

So greatness isn’t selfish. Spending time learning about what makes you unique, talented and great is not selfish. It is the process to learn of your gifts – with the responsibility to then go out and live them. You didn’t get these gifts just for you – you got them for all of us. We need the greatness in each other to build a better world. We need the greatness in each other to encourage each other to keep discovering who we are and what we are inspired to be. This is how we transform the world.

Discover what makes you great. Discover how to bring it to your world. Not only do you get a better life, but you inspire us all to find and live our own greatness.
