I read something that really surprised me lately – a comment that the greatest things that can happen to us are the struggles and obstacles. You are kidding, right?
Most of us look to avoid them. We think life is better when there is less challenge and struggle. Why can’t things be easy, calm and without strife?
Well, because we would never be introduced to the things that make us great. Coupled with struggle is learning about how much more capable we are. Coupled with obstacles is information about what we don’t do well that may need improving. Both are critical for us to improve, develop, appreciate and learn. These are things we would not have received if we did not have the obstacles. We grow into our greatness through the obstacles.
Life does a great job of showing us “all we can be,” not in constant successes, but in the struggles and obstacles. These show us our greatness. And I guess anything that helps us see who we are, what we are good at and what matters to us, is a good thing.
So, against the thinking of others, I gladly say thanks for the struggles and obstacles. And whenever I am locked in a struggle or fighting with an obstacle, I’ll hang onto them long enough to learn from them – to get their blessings. Then I’ll let them go forever because I got what I needed from them.
Now I am ready for the next obstacle. Bring it on…
